Hakim Shariff White

Virginia Beach - Hakim Shariff White, 41, of Virginia Beach passed away unexpectedly on May 10, 2017.

He was born September 4, 1975 in Essex, NJ. Hakim was homeless, you probably saw him walking around every city in Tidewater in navy blue coveralls carrying a bicycle rim often times in the middle of the road or having a good time in the fountain at Town Center in Virginia Beach.

Hakim was never a problem to law enforcement who "adopted" him and treated him as extended family. Hakim will be sorely missed by VBPD. Hakim is survived by his biological family and his best friend in the whole world Mark Roulley. Rest In Peace Hakim.

Hakim told me to call him Shariff (pronounced ''Shuh-REEF"), when I met him, at the post office on Columbus street, where he often stayed @ night. I see now that Shariff was his middle name.
He was so humble, it compelled you to want to help him, and, after a couple of times buying him food, he began to tell me his preference - whether it was a sub from Subway, or a sandwich, chips, cookies, and a drink from 7-Eleven.
So sad that he is gone.
He was a grateful gentle giant.

I happened to be driving by on VB Blvd soon after the police found Mr. White - the amount of respect and courtesy the police exhibited for Mr. White during this sad time was very very touching.

I remember i first met him when i worked at Marshalls 6 years ago. It was pouring down raining so i told him to come in and helped him bring in his bike. For the last couple of years every time i saw him anywhere from Chesapeake to Pembroke area, I made sure I stopped whatever I was doing and chatted with him. Id have to fight tooth and nail just for him to take any money from me. He was very humbling. He had nothing but that same pair of overalls and a bike, but he never complained. He only preached about Gods love to me. We lost a friend., but Heaven gained a soldier for sure. May you Rest In Heaven buddy.

Hakim made an impression. He was almost courtly in his approach to others, as if from another time and place. So many will miss him! My condolences to all who cared for and about him. Rest in peace.

Hakim was a unique and unforgettable soul. I used to enjoy having conversations with him. I bought him a gift card for food one time and he gave it away-which just confirms his disposition. Homeless but the most humble man I ever had the pleasure of meeting. My heart grieves for his family.
