Athena Griffith NORFOLK - Athena "Effie" Griffith, 81, passed away peacefully April 25, 2008 in her home, surrounded by loving family and friends. A native of Salisbury, N.C., she was the widow of Russell L. Griffith. She was a member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral. She was also a member of the Hellenic Woman's Club, Chesapeake Family YMCA and TOPS of Virginia Beach. She is survived by her daughter, Diana Griffith Roybal and husband Fred of Suffolk; a son, Michael Griffith of Lexington Park, Md.; three brothers, George Pappas and wife Bessie of Norfolk, Gregory Pappas and wife Stella and Peter Pappas and wife Nancy, all of Virginia Beach; three grandchildren, Angelina Abbott and husband Jonathan of Portsmouth, Scott Roybal and Allyson Roybal, both of Suffolk; and five nieces, Melanie Georges, Christina Flaskos, Pamela Jobbe, Maria Herring, Theonie Pappas; and two grandnieces. A funeral will be conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral with the Very Rev. Father Seraphim Poulos and Father Constantine Rogakos officiating. A Trisagion service will be conducted Monday at 7 p.m. at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel.
