Howard Clark Sr.

Howard L. Clark Sr. NORFOLK - Howard Lee Clark Sr., 91, passed away Dec. 23, 2010. Born in Illinois, he was the son of the late William and Olivia Clark. Howard retired after 40 years of dedicated service with the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. He was a member of the Ocean View Masonic Lodge, the Shrine Temple, the Norfolk Scottish Rite Bodies, the Norfolk Master Gardeners, and a longtime volunteer at the Norfolk Botanical Gardens. In 1942, he was a member of the 1st Battalion, Company 11, of the Virginia Protective Force. Howard was an Army veteran of World War II. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of 27 years, Shun Shun Clark; six children, Catherine Lee and her husband Bill of Chesapeake, Susan Bender and her husband Warren of Matthews, N.C., Howard Clark Jr. and his wife Lois of Virginia Beach, Jon Clark and his girlfriend Michele of the Eastern Shore, Richard Clark and his wife Maria of Leesburg, Va., and Robert Clark and his wife Cynthia of Cumming, Ga.; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ida Lumber Clark. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 27, at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 5792 Greenwich Road, Virginia Beach. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, the National Diabetes Foundation or to a charity of ones choice.
