Thelma Watson Obituary
Thelma Watson NORFOLK - Thelma Meekins Watson, born in Franktown, Va., in 1919, passed away after a lengthy illness July 26, 2011. She was the daughter of George Howard and Belle Gunter Meekins. Thelma was a graduate of Franktown Nassawadox High School on the Eastern Shore. She later moved to Norfolk where she worked for National Linen Service, first in the payroll department and later as a sales representative. In 1946, she met the love of her life, Paul Robert Watson, and they married in 1948. They had 65 years of happiness together. Thelma was a friendly and stylish lady who was greatly admired by all who knew her. She and her sister enjoyed traveling together while her husband built a career in the Navy. She was predeceased by her parents and her sister, Mary Daniel and is survived by her husband; her sister, Norma Meekins of Norfolk; her brother, Richard E. Meekins of Machipungo, Va.; nephew, Richard E. Meekins Jr., who was like a son to Paul and Thelma; nephew, Lance Daniel; niece, Brenda Wright; great-niece, Rebecca Meekins; three great-nephews, Matthew, Kevin and Kyle Wright; and loving caretaker, Susie Green, all of whom she adored dearly. A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 30, at Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Norview Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
