Virginia Beach - William Gary Broome, 67, died Tuesday, May 8, 2012, at Sentara Virginia Beach Hospital, following a brief illness.
He leaves his wife of 10 years, Jill Nickel Broome, his daughter, Erin Broome Highton and her husband, Will Highton; his beloved granddaughter, Olivia Grace Webster; his brother, Carlton Michael Broome of Metairie, LA; his niece, Michelle Broome of River Ridge, LA and her son, Christopher Broome; his first wife, Lucita Laurente Bandy and her husband Martin Bandy; numerous cousins and many close friends.
Born and raised in Bogalusa, LA, Gary was the son of Carlton Broome and Jincy Waldene Avera Broome. He graduated from Bogalusa High School and from Southeastern Louisiana University, Hammond, LA. He served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam Conflict.
Gary was the co-founder and owner for 30 years of NV Spring Company, Virginia Beach, an international fishing tackle and sporting goods company. He was also the founder and owner of Broome Auto Industries, Virginia Beach. He was a member and active contributor to numerous civic, community and outreach organizations, with a special passion for addressing the needs of children.
The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. and a celebration of Gary's life will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 12, 2012, at Holloman-Brown Funeral Home/Bayside Chapel on 1457 Independence Blvd., Virginia Beach. During the service, there will be an opportunity for friends to share "Gary" stories and memories. After the service, all will be invited to the Broome home to continue the celebration. Burial will be private.
