Natalie K. Heide

Norfolk - Natalie Kay Heide, aged 51, passed away at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday May 4, 2014 after a valiant battle against lung cancer. Never one to accept defeat, Natalie remained positive and upbeat in her determination to live her life to the fullest. She never gave up and fought bravely until the very end and was truly an example of strength and selflessness for all that knew her.

Born August 12 1962, Natalie lived most of her life in her hometown of Norfolk, Virginia. After graduating from Maury High School in 1980, Natalie earned double degrees in Biology and Medical Technology from Randolph Macon's Women's College in 1984. She worked as a medical technologist and raised 3 wonderful children. In 2008 Natalie was able to combine her medical training with her desire to work with people when she was accepted into Eastern Virginia Medical School's Master's Physicians Assistant program. Upon graduation in 2010, she worked locally as a PA in a pain management clinic and truly enjoyed helping her patients. This was the career she found most rewarding.

Natalie was a friend of Bill W for 14 years, loved reading, all types of sports, dining out, rock concerts, good friends, warm weather, belly dancing, afternoon naps, and most of all, God and her children.

She is survived by her loving children, Walter, Henry and Laura Averett, her mother Cynthia Anstrom, her father Robert K, Heide MD and wife Janice, her brother Paul Heide and wife Maggie, and her sister Linnea Heide. All reside in Norfolk, VA except Paul and Maggie who reside in Cary, NC.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday May 10, at 2 p.m. at Larchmont United Methodist Church 1105 Jamestown Crescent, in Norfolk.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made in Natalie's honor to the , Hampton Roads Food Bank, the Wounded Warrior Project or Sentara Health Foundation/Hospice House. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments Norfolk Chapel will handle arrangements and online condolences may be offered to the family at hdoliver.com
