Warren Martin Miller Obituary
Warren Martin Miller

Virginia Beach - Warren Martin Miller, 78, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 18, 2015, after a lengthy bout with cancer. Warren was surrounded by his family, who have a great deal of love and respect for him. Born in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Warren Martin Miller of Castleton-on-the-Hudson NY, and Virginia Woodard Miller-Choate of Norfolk, VA.

Warren is survived by his wife, Robin Dixon Miller; daughter, Cindi Calimer; sons, Justin Walker and his wife, Christy, Jesse Walker, and Ryan Hargis all of Virginia Beach. He is also survived by a sister, Virginia Groom of Phoenix AZ; a grandson, Matthew Mepham; his niece, Cathy Kleeman of Phoenix AZ; and his nephew, John Groom of Alexandria, VA.

He attended University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, and the American University, receiving a BA degree in Advertising.

Creative Innovation in the field of advertising and daily living best describes Warren, and a life well lived. He was never idle with his hands or creative mind. His lifelong passion for radio and music began at age 13 when he started working for a radio station in Arlington Virginia. In addition to his work in radio advertising, including writing and producing commercials, he was also a guitar and country music performer. He was first to record under contract with United Artists. He made several appearances on Dick Clark's American Band Stand. His music, known as rock-a-billy, continues to have fans as far away as Western Europe. Warren moved to Virginia Beach in 1962 along with Marge & George Crump to start WCMS Country Music Radio Station. He later started the American Broadcasting School at WCMS, and D'Arcy Recording Label. Blending his radio and musical careers, he opened "Studio Center Corporation" in 1966. The first independent production facility between Washington D.C. and Charlotte N.C. Studio Center eventually had numerous studios from Norfolk VA. to Las Vegas, Nevada. He sold the business in 2004 and Studio Center continues to flourish to this day. At the time of the sale, Studio Center was known to be the largest volume producers of custom broadcast advertising in the US, and many foreign countries as well. Receiving over 670 awards, many of which Warren was personally involved. Warren credits the success of Studio Center to the many talented and creative people who have worked along with him.

Warren received the Hampton Roads "Silver Medal Award" in 1990, for creative excellence in his contribution to the company, community, and advancement of advertising.

One of his greatest achievements was the innovation of the entire industry of ISDN multi studio recording. This provided a way to connect top voice talent and clients from coast to coast and around the world into one central recording studio via ISDN lines, with the clarity as if all are in the same sound room.

He was Past President of AFGHR serving on its board of Directors for three different periods. He served as the Addy Awards Chairman. Formerly active in the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce & Better Business Bureau he also served in helping to establish the VA Beach Neptune Festival and was Chairman one year of the "First Citizen of Norfolk" Award. Other interest he found enjoyable were Architectural and Landscape Design, from concept to completion and car shows, especially Barrett Jackson Car Show.

Warren is a member of Spring Branch Community Church, 1500 N. Great Neck Rd., VA Beach where a memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, November 23, 2015. He will be buried in The Stonewall Jackson Cemetery in Lexington, VA. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy be sent to Spring Branch Community Church Orphan Network or Building Fund, or to EVMS Leroy T Canoles Jr. Cancer Research Center. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel is handling arrangements. Online condolences may be offered to the family through hdoliver.com.
