Edward Garcia Obituary

Edward S. “Eddie Garcia Sr., 93, of Virginia Beach passed from this earth on Thursday, May 30, 2019.Born on September 7, 1925 in Norfolk, Virginia, Eddie was the son of Manuel and Rosa Garcia. He was predeceased by his parents and all of his siblings; his brothers Pete, Freddie, Donnie, Manny and Michael Garcia; and his sisters Anna DeAngelo and Mary Gelardi, and his grandson, Bryan Dugan. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Sandra Garcia; sons, Edward Jr, Carmen and Ricky Garcia; daughters, Ramona Garcia, Angela (Scott) Garcia-Mozer, Rosa Garcia, and Ana Imperial; his nephew and longtime business associate, Mike (Susan) Gelardi; his grandchildren Jason (Tammy) Dugan, Brittany (Kevin) Jeffries, Carmen (Abby) Garcia, Rebecca Garcia, Andrew Garcia, Ricky Garcia Jr., Anna Garcia, John Edward Jordan and Josh (Tiffany) Kellam, as well as many great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews; those who worked alongside of him, Andrea (Ron) Kilmer and his entire work family; his devoted and talented doctors, Barbara Parks and Murray Goldberg; his caregivers Amy, Willie, Genne, and Ann; and many loving friends and colleagues.A man of family and faith, Eddie dropped out of school after the sixth grade to help feed his family during the Depression by scraping oil off the floor of Mr. Looney’s motor shop. He worked construction jobs on area bases as a teen, recognized for his work ethic and willingness to tackle tasks that nobody wanted. Wanting to serve his country, he followed three of his brothers into action, joined the Navy at 17, and served in the South Pacific during World War II. He was a master electrician by trade and an entrepreneur by spirit, who succeeded beyond his wildest imagination with a combination of hard work, fierce determination, and an uncanny ability to see value where others failed to look. Eddie became a prominent developer and philanthropist, contributing to individuals and the community, not only in monetary gifts, but also with his vision and heart. Throughout the years, he served as a friend, advisor, or director to many charitable and business undertakings, always encouraging others to reach further than they ever thought possible. He worked with world leaders, presidents, diplomats, and kings, but was equally at home with those less prominent and less fortunate, always listening with the same intensity to each person who crossed his path, always willing to learn from their experience and more than happy to share his love, his booming laughter, his childlike sense of wonder, and his amazing capacity for forgiveness with everyone he touched. We will miss the shining insight and inspiration he brought to each moment of his magnificent life.A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11: 00 AM, Tuesday, June 4, 2019 at Star of the Sea Catholic Church located at 1404 Pacific Avenue, Virginia Beach. Entombment will be at Princess Anne Memorial Park, 1110 North Great Neck Road, Virginia Beach, immediately following the service. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 6:30 PM on Monday, June 3, 2019 H. D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Star of the Sea Catholic Church. I just learned of Eddies death. I met with him and his wife in 1994 in their beautiful penthouse in Va Beach. He was a wonderful gentleman and I regret we never got to do business together. Rest In Peace Eddie. He was a true gentleman.

May the memories of the wonderful times you shared together bring a smile and joy in your heart.

To the Garcia family deepest sympathy. My father Mike Bonavita worked at Mr Garcis's golf course. He loved being the Pro there and he loved playing gin rummy with the boys. Mr. Garcia accomplished so many things in his life and touched so many people. I hope this gives you some comfort. My dad spoke so highly of him.

Eddie, when a memorial service is said and done reality sets in. Sadness appears on family faces & tears fall. Today I want to send my condolences to your children: With your swirl of emotions & with your heartache I will tell you what your father once told me; how much he loved this children and oh how they pushed him -at times - but- that each child had an unique quality in their personality and he loved it when that charastitic would shine (and he smiled) I knew he was thinking of all of you. I remained silent, just listening to his soothing voice. I know that in that moment you were in his mind and he was thinking of your individuality . Your. father expressed the love he held for his family & the obvious beauty. in each. I will always remember that conversation. With love in his heart, Eddie was extremely confident that all his children would succeed. and I said "I get it" He never lectured , he told stories, and, always said to me "Don't You Think" I am so sorry he is gone. Continue to be your unique self, Kathy

My sincere condolences to the family of Eddie Garcia. I knew Eddie briefly in the 1960s, when he owned Volta Electric Company. He was a well-respected contractor and employer of many electricians from IBEW Local Union 80, Norfolk. Everyone I met spoke highly of Eddie. I found him to be a kind, generous person. He was a great man.

Eddie was always lovely and gracious to me. He was warm and friendly to a point you felt like he'd known you forever. I remember sailing on a trip from Sint Maarten to St. Barts. The seas were rough that day. It took a little longer to get it the island. If it hadn't been for Eddie talking me through that trip, I would have gotten so sick. He was sweet telling me to breath deep and keep my face into the wind. He was an angel to me that day. We spent a week together with my husband, Doug and his wife Sandy. They were the most charismatic and loving couple. We had the best trip ever with them. I will always carry his memory with love and affection. God Bless each of you that were touched by his life. Forever grateful Cheryl Talbot
