PEORIA - Albert Nickels Jr., 75, of Peoria passed away going home to glory at 2:36 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2014, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center.

He was married to his soulmate, Amelia (Pendleton) Nickels, for 47 years. She survives.

He was born on Aug. 14, 1939, in Greenville, Miss., to the late Albert Sr. and Virginia Nickels.

Albert was a family man who took great pride in them all. He was well known in the community. He was a hard working man, well rounded, who could fix everything. He worked an as electrician for many years. Albert was a part of the Local 34 union for 25 years.

He leaves to cherish his precious memories, his loving wife, Amelia of Peoria; three sons, Marcus (Sonja) Nickels of Houston, Texas, and Nehemiah Nickels and William Nickels, both of Peoria; two brothers, Elbert (Hazel) Nickels of Lansing, Mich., and Willie Austin of Waukegan, Ill.; two sisters, Sara Jones and Lillie Austin, both of Kenosha, Wis.; three special daughters; two goddaughters; one godson; special friends, Percy Macon and Jessie Johnson; 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends who adored him and will miss him dearly.

Albert was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; one daughter, Pandora Nickels; and one granddaughter, Christian Nickels.

A home-going celebration will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, 2015, at Star of Hope Full Gospel Baptist, with visitation commencing one hour prior at 10 a.m. The Bishop Joseph H. Johnson will officiate. Albert will be laid to rest in Springdale Cemetery.

Arrangements were made especially for Albert's family and professionally directed by T.W. Parks Colonial Chapel.
