WASHINGTON - Barbara A. "Barb" Hopp, 74, of Washington, IL, died at 6:50 a.m. Tuesday, December 20, 2016, at Washington Christian Village.
Born on October 8, 1942, in Peoria, IL, to the late Sylvin and Lela (Johnson) Zimmerman, she married Jay A. Hopp on November 19, 1960, in Washington, IL. He survives.
Also surviving are 2 daughters, Robin (Mario) Porporino of New Jersey and Angie Hopp of Chillicothe, IL; 1 son, Kenny (Mindy) Hopp of Washington, IL; 2 granddaughters, Shelby McKavitt and Maci Hopp; 2 grandsons, Daniel Roe and Brock Hopp; 1 great-grandson, Ashton Roe; her brother, Shelby Sellers of Hardy, AR; and her sister, Martha Groves of Florida.
Barb was a 1960 graduate of Washington Community High School. She worked at Foster's Jewelry in Washington during the 1960s and later worked 25 years at Illinois Central College and 20 years at the Morton Car Auction.
She was a member of Sunnyland Christian Church in Washington, where she had taught Sunday School. Barb loved boating, crossing Lake Michigan 6 times. She also did extensive traveling, including an African Safari.
Barb was an avid Washington Panther Football fan, who was always putting others first. She had a great sense of humor and a memorable laugh, and dearly loved her kids, grandchildren and great-grandson.
A funeral service for Barb will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, December 23, 2016, at Sunnyland Christian Church, with Pastor Evan Williams officiating. A visitation will be on Thursday, December 22, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Sunnyland Christian Church, with further visitation 30 minutes prior to her service on Friday at the Church. Burial will be in Glendale Cemetery in Washington.
Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to her church, Washington Panthers 12th Man or the ALS Peoria Chapter.
