TOULON - Charles E. "Charlie" McRell, 93, lifelong resident of Toulon, passed away at 5:15 a.m. Thursday, September 6, 2018 at his home.
Charlie was born on February 18, 1925 in Toulon, the last of seven children, born to his father, Ernest McRell and mother, Ethel May (Wells) McRell. He married Myrtle (Mason) McRell on June 20, 1948 in Toulon. They recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.
Surviving are his wife, Myrtle, of Toulon; two daughters, Laurel (Daniel) Otterstrom of South Carolina and Linda (Lowell) Dean of Virginia; one son, Michael McRell of Washington, Illinois; and one granddaughter, Jennifer (Dylan) Perry of Colorado. He is preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Joseph Alan Dean; and six brothers and one sister.
Charles served in the United States Army and was a World War II veteran and sharp shooter in the Pacific Ocean Theater. He was a member of the Toulon American Legion Post #416 and the former Toulon VFW #8825. He worked for General Telephone Company in Kewanee for 40 years.
A graveside service and burial with military honors will be at 3 p.m. on Monday, September 10, 2018 at Pleasant View Cemetery in Kewanee. Rev. Sidney Davis, Jr. will officiate. A visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. on Monday, prior to the burial, at Haskell-Hott Funeral Homes in Toulon.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Toulon American Legion Post #416. Condolences may be left for Charlie's family on his tribute wall at www.haskellhott.com.
