PEORIA - Dixie L. Lancaster Nelson, 85, of Peoria died on Monday, February 12, 2018, at Liberty Village in Peoria.
Dixie was born on Aug. 5, 1932, in Peoria to Wilbur L. and Hermina (Olson) Lancaster, whom preceded her in death. She married Robert C. Nelson on May 16, 1954.
Dixie is survived by her husband, Robert; 3 children, Susan K. Toland of Peoria, Steven (Julie) Nelson of Peoria and Richard (Kris) Nelson of Seal Beach, CA; 3 granddaughters, Kate Nelson, Mia Nelson and Lauren (Andy) Schroderus; 3 grandsons, Chris (Caitlin) Toland, Brett Toland and Brandon (Hannah) Nelson; and 2 great-grandchildren, Kaden Schroderus and Kenley Pilgrim, and soon to be Bryn Nelson.
Dixie was a 1951 graduate of Woodruff High School. She was a lifelong tap dancer and was associated with Betty Merkle and Don Ford as a Merkleite. She later took dance with Gene Buckingham and was a member of Bourbon Creek Country Dance Group. She volunteered at Proctor Hospital for many years as a Pink Coat Lady Auxiliary member and was a member of the Proctor Pulmonary Class for many years.
She was employed at Key Motors, Iowa National Ins. Co., and Liberty Mutual Ins. Co. She was a former member of the Merry Mixer Home Extension Group.
Dixie was a long time member of First United Methodist Church in Peoria.
Cremation rites will be accorded. A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. on Friday, February 16, 2018, at The Wilton Mortuary in Peoria. A visitation will be held from 3 to 5 p.m., prior to the service on Friday, February 16, at the mortuary. Burial of ashes will take place at a later date.
