Gerald Witzig
TREMONT - Gerald Witzig, 75, of Tremont, passed to his final home at 3:50 a.m. Friday, Jan. 11, 2019, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
Born Sept. 23, 1943, in Eureka to John and Marcella (Stamm) Witzig, he married Margaret Ann Hawkins on Aug. 1, 1965, in McLean. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Doug (Amy) Witzig of Peoria and Russ (Beth) Witzig of Troy; eleven grandchildren; and one brother, Ron (Betty) Witzig of Kentucky.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Donna Fowler.
Gerald had worked at Caterpillar, Inc. in Mapleton as a maintenance man for 33 years.
He was known as a tinkerer. Gerald had a heart for helping others. He enjoyed watching high school and collegiate wrestling, especially watching his children and grandchildren.
Gerald attended Pekin First Church of the Nazarene and formerly attended Grace Presbyterian Church in Peoria, where he was part of a Monday Men's Group that did maintenance around the church.
His memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, 2019, at Pekin First Church of the Nazarene. The Rev. W. Lloyd Brock will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Thursday at the church. Arrangements are by Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Pekin First Church of the Nazarene, 3514 Broadway, Pekin, IL 61554.
