PEKIN - John D. Armstrong, 92, of Pekin passed away at 6:51 p.m. Thursday, November 29, 2018, at the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria.
Born August 20, 1926, in Peoria to John and Verna (Reeves) Armstrong, he married Madeleine Chapman on July 5, 1945, in Peoria. She died on August 20, 2011, in East Peoria.
Also preceding him in death were his parents, three brothers and four sisters.
Surviving are two daughters, Sandra (Ron) Ragon of Creve Coeur and Beth E. Underwood of Pekin; three grandchildren, Lori (Billy) Martin of Pekin, Jeff Godby of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and Jodi (Brandon) Smith of Morton; and four great-grandchildren, Nicholas Faicnhey, Kerstin Faichney, Lily Smith and Morgan Smith.
John was a very proud American who loved his country. He enlisted and served with honor in the United States Navy during World War II as a gunner on an oil tanker in the Atlantic Ocean.
He and his wife had owned and operated Armstrong TV Center in Peoria for many years, retiring in 1991.
John had been a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Pekin.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, December 7, 2018, at Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin. Pastor Kurt Mews of St. Peter Lutheran Church in East Peoria will officiate. Military honors will be provided by Tazewell Area Ceremonial Team.
Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army, 243 Derby Street, Pekin, IL 61554.
