Marc Burnett Obituary
PEORIA - Marc Victor Burnett, 59, of Peoria died Thursday, Sept. 20, 2012, at his home, surrounded by loving family.
He was born at Scott Air Force Base in Belleville, Ill., the son of Victor and Patricia (Vannice) Burnett on Feb. 3, 1953. Marc married Ann Powers on Feb. 25, 1984. She survives.
Marc and Ann have two sons, Ty Michael and Van Powers Burnett. Also surviving are five brothers, Rick, Terry, Kelly (Anita), Chris (Connie) and Johnny (Susan); and four sisters, Viki, Lisa, Val (Dave Berry) and Jenny (Bob Parkhurst). He also had numerous nieces and nephews in a growing, loving, extended family.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Patrick.
Marc was the director of Marketing for the Peoria Civic Center since September of 2000. During his tenure, Marc was "the face" of the Peoria Civic Center and was an integral part of bringing to life the Broadway Theatre Series, WorldFest (an extension of the Cultural Diversity Committee) and many community organizations. Among those were the W.D. Boyce Council of Boy Scouts of America, WCBU Associate Board of Directors, On-Air volunteer for WTVP and in a variety of capacities for ICC, Peoria Players and Corn Stock theatres.
Marc was a Eucharistic Minister and Lector at Holy Family Church, and active in Cursillo and TEC. He was the founder of the Peoria Civic Center Student Advisory Program. Music was a focal point in Marc's life, and he shared that love with family and friends. His musical talent and performances touched countless lives, ranging from basement jams and recordings to original music scores for family weddings and festival performances as the Burnett Family Singers.
Marc was an avid outdoorsman and sports enthusiast. He was particularly fond of Long's Peak and the St. Louis Cardinals. He also coached several youth sports teams for nearly a decade.
His sense of humor and exuberance endeared him to friends around the world. Those closest to him will lovingly remember his one-word outlook on life: "Bueno!"
Visitations will be held at Holy Family Church on Sunday, Sept. 23, from 4 to 8 p.m. and on Monday, Sept. 24, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. A funeral Mass will be officiated by the Franciscan Friars at Holy Family Church on Monday, Sept. 24, at 10:30 a.m.
Memorials may be made to the Burnett Scholarship Fund - W.D. Boyce Council, BSA (through Commerce Bank), Holy Family Church, or a cause of the donor's choice.

I am still struggling to accept this world without Marc. I have not been able to let go. Marc not only left a footprint on this earth and all who knew him: he left an imprint.
I will continue to pray for the family and for all the friends of Marc.
My favorite Marc memories, include "jammin'" at Jean Ward's house...this was the ultimate for me...and that Senior skit, which opened with Marc, in a bunny costume, singing: Overture, douse the lights, this is it, the night of nights. I knew, then, that the sophomores were not winning that Spirit trophy for Homecoming.
He was just the best: I was so blessed to know him and his precious family...the WHOLE family and, especially, Ann, Ty, and Van.

It was such a shock to hear about Marc's passing. We were out of town at the time and Tina Klein-Puntoni let us know. I remember his kindness, great big smile, and enthusiasm. It was always a kick to see him promoting the Civic Center. I am so terribly sorry. Pancreatic cancer is a horribly dismissed and under-treated condition. Perhaps Marc's loss will spur some aggressive demands to treat this vicious and aggressive cancer. My mother passed in 2006 from pancreatic and there were little options for her. I can only hope that treatments will improve.

Marc was a good and friendly neighbor- esp. the time when my Dad's front fence ended up in your front yard on a Sunday morning! He will be missed. I know he must have been a great husband and father because his sons are always so polite and friendly as well as his sweet wife, Ann. I am thankful to God for wonderful neighbors!

He will be missed. He was a really sweet, fun, inquisitive, dedicated, adventurous man who truly loved life.I actually can't even recall a time that he even complained- he had such a zest for life and the unknown!
I will miss our yearly Oct lunch when he would come into the city and have a fabulous lunch where I got to hear of all of his past and future adventures with his beautiful wife and 2 sons- who he was so proud of!
He loved our show Rain- since he was a huge Beatles fan. We booked the show once on his birthday in Peoria for his birthday celebration. And we always sent each other birthday greetings since we shared the same birthday.
I am going to miss him. He was one of the good ones and taken to soon.
As Marc always said on his voicemails and I would always laugh at it- "Bueno. It's Marc Burnett and I am back in the saddle"

I am very sorry to hear of Marc's passing. My folks moved to Peoria in 1966 and Marc was the only friend I had in 7th grade; (since I was new to the neighborhood.) I recall he took me to his parents home to meet his family..kids running around everywhere, laughing and playing. I moved away after only 3 months, and we never spoke again. But the positive experiences Marc left with me remain to this day. Thank you Marc for being my friend.

My thoughts and prayers are with the whole Burnett family. I first met Marc when I was a freshman in high school and hung out with Chris and Kelly. I was fortunate to work with him on many occassions through the years from riverfront projects to other community events. I can honestly say there was never a time that he wasnt so kind and friendly towards everyone. A great sense of humor an infectious smile and a truly great human being. My thoughts and prayers are with you, Ann, Ty, Van and the hundreds of Burnetts out there. I thought about Marc just last week when I came across a Cardinal Baseball book he gave me in 1991. He told me he was going to quiz me on it. Every time I come across that book, I laugh. He was a great man.
