PEKIN - Robert Morris Schoenbein, 92, of rural Pekin passed away at 9:15 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, 2019, at Hallmark House Nursing Center in Pekin.
Born July 15, 1926, in Morton to Carl and Lillie (Kinsinger) Schoenbein, he married Chrystal M. Verburgt on Nov. 1, 1952, in Portage, Wisconsin. She died on Jan. 8, 2004, in rural Pekin.
He also was preceded in death by one son, William Morris "Bill" Schoenbein; one infant daughter, Lori Schoenbein; five brothers; and one sister.
Surviving are one daughter, Linda (Jerry) Bailey of Pekin; two sons, Steve (Christie) Schoenbein of Pekin and Joe (Janet) Schoenbein of Tremont; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and one brother, Dayton Schoenbein of Morton. He also leaves a sister-in-law, Lydia Schoenbein of Morton.
Bob was a United States Army veteran of the Korean War and a longtime grain and livestock farmer in Tazewell County.
He was a longtime member and past commander of Roy L. King Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1232 and William Schaefer American Legion Post 44, both in Pekin. Bob also was a member and past officer of the Forty & Eight
He was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Pekin.
His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18, 2019, at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. The Rev. Judy Steger Kennedy will officiate. Visitation will be one hour before the funeral. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin, with military rites accorded by the United States Army and the Tazewell Area Ceremonial Team.
The family would like to thank the staff at Hallmark House Nursing Center and Hospice Compassus for the special care provided to Bob.
