GROVELAND - Steven John Sisler, 69, of Groveland passed away at 8:56 a.m. on Thursday, November 30, 2017, at Hardin County General Hospital Emergency Room.
Born April 8, 1948, in Peoria to John Wayne and Rosemary (Klassert) Sisler, he married Leona Susan Holden on June 6, 1981, in Peoria County. She passed away on January 4, 2011, in Groveland.
He also was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Donald Sisler; and one sister, Betty LaMaster.
Surviving are three sons, Joshua Sisler and Benjamin Sisler, both of Groveland, and Steve Sisler, of St. Louis; two daughters, Nicole Fitch and Stephanie Minton, both of Pekin; nine grandchildren; four sisters, Mona Piro of Morton, Pat (Bill) Beaty of Morton, Marcia (Glen) Rhoades of Marquette Heights and Tina Jolly of North Pekin; and six brothers, Louis (Priscilla) Sisler of Pekin, Dorsey Sisler of Elizabethtown, Charles (Linda) Sisler of North Pekin, Mike (Judy) Sisler of Marquette Heights, Marvin (Debbie) Diveley of Pekin and Ron (Tina) Sisler of North Pekin.
John had worked for Caterpillar, Inc. for 38 years, retiring in 2003 as a line inspector.
He served in the United States Army Infantry during the Vietnam War.
John was a life member and past Commander of Paul Towne Memorial Amvets Post #169 in North Pekin. He also served as past Department Commander of the Illinois Amvets from 1991-1992; past National Commander of the Amvets from 2003-2004; and was elected to the National Service Foundation in 2009 and 2012. In 2013, he received the National Sons of Amvets Aid and Service Award.
He enjoyed deer hunting, bowling, golf and volunteering for veterans' organizations. He also enjoyed spending time with his family.
A celebration of life gathering will be held at noon Saturday, January 27, 2018, at Paul Towne Memorial Amvets Post #169 in North Pekin. Cremation will be accorded by Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
