EAST PEORIA - William J. "Bill" Lents, 79, of East Peoria passed away Sunday, Dec. 3, 2017, at his residence, surrounded by his family.
Bill was born on Dec. 8, 1937, in Bridgewater, Iowa, to John and Muriel (Parker) Lents. He married Jacqueline Winter on Sept. 8, 1962, in Morton.
Surviving are his wife, Jackie Lents of East Peoria; daughter, Shannon (Chad) Dillefeld of Peoria; and four grandchildren, Anna, J. Michael, Noah and William Tedford, and their father, John Tedford. He is also survived by three brothers, Tom (Polly) Lents, Larry (Judy) Lents and Roger (Shirley) Lents; one sister, Carole (David) Followwill; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Bill had a close relationship with his wife's eight siblings and their spouses.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Jeffrey; his daughter, Shelley; and his mother and father-in-law, Lillian and Edward Winter.
Bill worked in Quality Assurance at Caterpillar, Inc.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 318.
Bill was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers and the St. Louis Cardinals. He always looked forward to playing golf and was very involved in the Prison Ministry through Faith, Hope and Love at Pontiac Correctional Center.
Bill loved his family, especially his grandchildren, and found great humor in telling his many jokes to people.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. at Crosspoint Church in East Peoria on Friday, Dec. 8, 2017, with Pastor Josh Gutteridge officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 7, at Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Morton and from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church, prior to the service on Friday. Burial will be at Roberts Cemetery in Morton, where full military rites will be conducted.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Illinois CancerCare, Crosspoint Church in East Peoria or Faith, Hope and Love Prison Ministry.
