Richard "Dick" W. Gott
PEORIA - Richard "Dick" W. Gott, 83, of Peoria passed away on Sunday, August 7, 2016, at 8:25 P.M. at Liberty Village in Peoria.
Dick was born on August 17, 1932, in El Paso, TX to Clifford and Ena Paulson Gott. He married Roslyn Zinser Martini on August 12, 1956, in Washington. On Friday, they would have celebrated their 60-year anniversary together. She survives and resides in Peoria.
Also surviving are their 3 children, Kelly (Sanford) Imhoff of Peoria, Carolyn Gott of Michigan City, IN, and Kendall Gott of Leavenworth, KS; three grandchildren, David (Christa) Gott of Augusta, GA, Ryan (Ashley) Gott of Leavenworth, KS, and Leah Imhoff of Peoria; one sister, Jean (Tom) McFarland of Kansas City, MO; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Dick worked as an accountant with Caterpillar for 45 years, retiring in 1998 from the Defense and Federal Products Department. In high school, he was a four-sport letterman in Richmond, MO and competed at the state track meet. He graduated from Murray State University where he was an all-tournament basketball player. He was a member of the 1954 Caterpillar Cats Hall of Fame team that won the Denver AAU tourney and the world amateur tournament in Rio de Janeiro. He was a member of three Peoria retiree golf leagues and was very proud of his hole-in-one.
Dick was treasurer and council member of Grace Lutheran and St. Paul Lutheran Churches. He was also treasurer and board member of George Washington Carver Community Center for a number of years. He loved learning and expanding his knowledge of history of any kind. Above all of his accomplishments, Dick was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Salem Lutheran Church in Peoria or the Washington Historical Society. A memorial service for Dick will be held on Monday, August 15, 2016, at 11:00 A.M. at Salem Lutheran Church in Peoria, where Dick was a longtime member. Pastor Richard Wehrs will officiate. There will be a visitation an hour prior to the service, from 10:00 A.M.- 11:00 A.M. Inurnment will be at a later time at Glendale Cemetery in Washington.
