DUNLAP - James Eugene White, age 89, of Quincy, formerly of Dunlap, died Thursday, July 13, 2017, at 1:40 p.m. in Good Samaritan Home.
Jim was born on May 5, 1928, in Galesburg, Illinois, the son of A. Dewey and Pearl Lurene Mankle White. He married Lisetta Bennett on August 20, 1950, in Dunlap, IL.
He was a 1946 graduate of Dunlap High School, a 1950 graduate of Western Illinois University and received his Masters degree from Bradley University in 1962. Jim was also a graduate of several banking schools. He served in the Army Medical Corps as a Physical Reconditioning Instructor at Valley Forge Army Hospital during the Korean Conflict.
Jim taught in the classroom and coached all sports in Sheffield, IL, as well as in Agana, Guam, and Dunlap High Schools from 1953 to 1961.
In 1961, he changed professions and entered the Dunlap State Bank. In 1972, he became President of the State Street Bank of Quincy.
Jim was very active in civic affairs: school and church boards' member in Dunlap, as well as mayor of the village for three years. In Quincy, he served as chairman of the 1977 United Way Fund Drive, P.S.E.F., and was a member of the Blessing Hospital Board for ten years; he served as president of the QCC Board and also was a member of many IBA, and IBAA Banking groups; he served as President of ICBI.
Survivors in addition to his wife, Lisetta, include three sons, Rodney White of Peoria, IL, Craig (Nancy) White of Highland Park, IL, and Jeff (Bobbe) White of Quincy, IL; twin daughters, Judy (Kent) Bainter of Quincy, IL, and Laurie (Doug) Brinkman of Coatsburg, IL; ten grandchildren, Kurt (Lisa) White, Krista White Lent, Rachael White, Erika (Alex Grab) White, Korey White, Nicklaus (Jenna) White, Halie Brinkman, Hayden Brinkman, Dylan Bainter and Kara Bainter; 4 great-grandchildren, Logan, Brayden and Emma Lent and Preston White; step-great-grandchild, Treygor Chamberlain; and a sister-in-law, Mary Hendrix, and her family of Kalamazoo, MI.
James was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Keith White, in 1976; and a sister, Dorothy Dye.
Private family graveside services will be held at Prospect Cemetery in Dunlap, IL.
