Met Smokey way back in 1964 as John's girlfriend. John and I were both members of the California National Guard in Glendale, CA. John was considered a good friend. Smokey was the perfect girl. We all knew John had picked the best of the best. By early 1967, I moved to Ventura County and began my 32 year career as a Deputy Sheriff with the Ventura County Sheriff's Dept. In doing so, I slowly lost track of John and Smokey. Loved those people and always wondered what ever happened to them. I accidentally stumbled on this obituary notification. Just to think I would never see my friend Smokey again was a very sad moment for me. And, even more so for John's loss. Smokey is all John ever talked about. What a terrible loss for him. The only good thing for me, when I see Smokey in my memory, she was young and beautiful. That's how I will always remember her. R.I.P. Smokey, my friend...

Dear John, please accept my heartfelt sympathy for the loss of such a spitfire and inspiration of a wife, mother, professional leader and competitor. She really resonated such life and spunk. A real role model for women even my age. John it was always apparent how much love and admiration you had for Smoky. Blessings and prayers to you and your family. Kimber

Dear John,
Our hearts were saddened to read of Smokey's passing. She will be sorely missed by all lucky enough to have known her.
We have fond memories of years past when the four of us attended Padres games, and had a fun trip to New York.
Please know our thoughts are with you and your family.
