Florence Mildred Knaus Obituary

Florence Mildred Knaus

CHICAGO, IL: Florence Mildred Knaus (nee Globokar) passed away on Friday, January 25, 2013 at her Chicago home, surrounded by loved ones.

Beloved wife of 65 years to the late Andrew Knaus; devoted mother of, Dennis (Katriona) Knaus, Diane (Paul) Neuhoff, Douglas (Kendall) Knaus, and Deborah (Peter) Jagel; proud grandmother of 13; great-grandmother of four.

Preceded in death by parents Joseph and Mary (nee Baskovic) Globokar; and brothers, Edward and Robert Globokar.

Florence grew up in Cleveland, Ohio. A bright achiever from the start, she urged her parents to let her start kindergarten a year early. Her tenacity and desire for learning would serve her well in her studies at Notre Dame College, as well as throughout life. She married Andrew shortly after falling in love with him at a neighborhood dance. They were partners in dance, business, and romance for the next 65 years. Early in their marriage, they began working alongside one another running their own furniture and appliance store and later, as brokers in their successful real estate business. Always charming and charismatic, Florence loved making new friends, and her door was always open to house guests. "The more the merrier," she'd say. It wasn't unusual for Florence to host dozens of people on their boat at the Catawba Island Club or in their Aspen condominium. Most of all, she delighted in raising her children, attending charity galas, singing show tunes with her grandchildren, and dancing with her husband.

Florence will be missed by friends in all the places she has lived: Hunting Valley, OH; Gulfport, FL; Aspen, CO; and Chicago, IL. But her loving memory survives in her family. Florence's favorite saying was, "Light up your eyes." Her strength, elegance, resilience, and passion for life will always be remembered.

Memorial Service Saturday, February 9 at 3:00 PM at Fourth Presbyterian Church, North Michigan Avenue at Delaware Place, Chicago, IL 60611; Interment Monday Feburary 11th, 10am at Acacia Masonic Memorial Park, Mayfield Heights, Ohio.
