Willa "Porkey" Cherry Banks (Smith) was born March 6, 1943 in Gary, IN to the late Willie and Jean Smith. She transitioned to be with the Lord on September 18th, 2018. Porkey graduated from Gary Roosevelt High School, class of 1961. She was baptized at an early age and was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Gary, IN. Porkey had a career in nursing for over 25 years before she retired. Porkey leaves to cherish her memories, her two daughters L'Tanya (Glen) Ross and Gina (John) Geter, her sister, Rose Mary Collins, four grandchildren, Whitney Geter, Deric (Britney) Geter, Devon Geter and Cydnee Allen. Niece, Y'vette Sloan, nephew, Harvey (Carla) Collins, great niece, Coree Williams, great friend Eunice T. Griffin, two step sons Terrance (Nicole) Banks and Darnell Banks, nine step grandchildren, one step great grandchild and a host of loving and loyal cousins, other relatives and friends. Visitation Sunday September 23, 2018 from 12-8:00p.m. Family Hours 6-8:00p.m. at the Guy & Allen Chapel. Funeral Service Monday September 24, 2018 11a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church 2235 W. 10th Avenue.

Mrs. Banks was a wonderful person and I have only talk to her on the phone when she made her doctors appointment to get her bus passes, I will miss your talks and all your prays you did for me.

Willa was an amazing lady. She actively loved and celebrated family and friends. She was supportive, kind and definitely the life of the party. Willa was a valued family friend. I feel privileged to have known her. Her passing truly saddens me and she will be missed by many.
Dear family, you are in my thoughts and prayers. May God comfort, bless, heal and grant you peace during this sad time. Please accept my sincere condolences.

To Rose, you and Porkey., twins in spirit and deeds, my sisters; To my nieces Tanya and Gina like mother Luke daughter...beautiful, generous, kindhearted, born to love unconditionally and to my family both extended and affinity and friends may the Lord God Almighty. Comfortt us all as only HE can and put our tears in a bottle and may HE now say to Porkey well done Good and Faithfull Servant as she look upon HIS Face and I reconfirm Sorrow is not forever but Love is.
