Mamie "Dee-Dee" Delores (Thornton) Mabon, 65, transitioned peacefully to her heavenly home on February 21, 2016 surrounding by her family. Mamie was the youngest of 15 children born to the union of the late Preston Sr. and Estella (Isabell) Thornton on April 9, 1950. Mamie accepted Christ at an early age as a member of Church of Deliverance in Christ and later became the First Lady of Faith Tabernacle Deliverance Center where her husband pastors. She graduated from Emerson High School and took several college courses. She was united in holy matrimony to Pastor Bennie L. Mabon, Sr. on February 28, 1970 and to this union 2 daughters and 2 sons were born. Mamie last worked for Lever Brothers Company. Mamie was preceded in death by her parents, 6 sisters, and 7 brothers. She is survived by her husband, Bishop Bennie L. Mabon Sr.; four children: Casaundra (Eric) Blackmon, Kimberly (Ron) Bufford, Bennie Jr. (Elois/Kimberly) Mabon and Kewin (Jennifer) Mabon; 19 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; sister, Claudette (Elder Charles) Williamson; brother Pleas (Guytra) Thornton; and a host of other relatives and friends. Mamie's celebration of life will begin with visitation starting at 9 a.m. Saturday, February 27, 2016 followed by the funeral service at 12 noon. All services will be held at Faith Tabernacle Deliverance Center, 400 East 35th Ave, Gary, Indiana; Bishop Zachery Williamson (Saginaw, Michigan) officiating; interment Oak Hill Cemetery, Gary, IN. Flowers and condolences may be delivered and/or sent to Faith Tabernacle on Friday, February 26, 2016.
