James Fort was born February 1, 1950 to Pierce and Rebecca Fort in Tuskegee, Alabama. James attended Froebel High School and was employed by U.S. Steel and the Gary Sanitation Department. James was united in holy matrimony to Sharon D. Shipp on July 16, 1994. A member of Galilee Missionary Baptist Church under the Pastorate of Rev. Charles M. Morgan, where he faithfully attended prayer meeting and bible study. He was active in the Men's Ministry. James was called from labor to reward on Monday December 26, 2016 at Methodist Hospital Southlake Campus. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters and two brothers. James leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife Sharon D. Fort; two sons James Fort, Jr. of Gary, Indiana and Jeffery Collins Fort of Terre Haute, Indiana; two daughters Janice (Cedric) Bivens of Alexandria, Virginia and Aronnette Whitley of Phoenix, Arizona; sister Margaret Hatten of Atopka, Florida; five grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, the Galilee Church family and many friends. Visitation Friday January 6, 2017 from 9-11:00a.m. with funeral services to follow at 11:00 a.m. All Services at Galilee Baptist Church 1548 Madison Street. Pastor Charles Morgan officiating. Interment Oak Hill Cemetery.

Lord people who did not have the pleasure of meeting my uncle can tell simply by his photo that he was something special. If you needed to laugh... call Uncle James. A secret you needed to share... call Uncle James. If you needed a recipe... call Uncle James. My uncle was all these things for me which is why my heart is broken. I am going to miss our morning talks but God knows best. God knew that you missed your brothers and sisters and parents. God has restored the family broken for the rest of us to meet again when we are called home. I love you Uncle James... Tomeka
