ARTHUR LEE HOUSER Sr. was born February 14, 1929 in Autaugaville, Alabama to the late Robert and Mary (Sanders) Houser. Arthur was a member of First Baptist Church where he served on the Deacon Board, Men's Sunday School Class, Brotherhood, Senior Usher Board, Tape Ministry, Wednesday Night Bible Class and Loved Sharers Group. As chairman of the Building and Grounds Committee he was instrumental in the acquisition of the land across the street from the church, which was dedicated as a parking lot and named in his honor. He was a Veteran of U.S. Army serving during the Korean Conflict and a retired employee of the U.S. Postal Service after 27 years. Arthur was also a part-time custodian for the Gary Community Schools and after retiring he shared his love and support for others through his service as a driver for Guy & Allen Funeral Director's Inc. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers. Arthur departed this life May 5th at Northside Hospital. He leaves to cherish his fond memories his wife, Geraldine, son, Arthur (Pamela) Houser Jr. of Decatur, GA, three grandchildren: Justin Houser (Oakland, CA), Wesley Houser (Chicago, IL), and Andrew Houser (Decatur, GA). one sister, Nellie Whetstone (Autaugaville, AL); eight nieces: Sara Lewis, Cheryl Lash, Pearline Houser, Katie Houser, all of Detroit, MI; Bertha Minor, of Autaugaville, AL; Betty (Kenneth) Thomas, Tuscaloosa, AL; JoAnn Smartt-Gaither of Decatur, GA; Juanakee Hargrove-Butler of Lithonia, GA; and Ebony Stills of Atlanta, GA; six nephews: Richard (Shirley) Houser, Timothy Houser, Jesse Houser, Nathan (Tanya) Houser, Ernest (Karen) Houser all of Detroit, MI and Stanley (Daphane) Smartt of Corona, CA; and a host of other relatives and friends. Visitation Sunday May 17, 2015 from 12 noon to 8:00 p.m. at the Guy & Allen Chapel 2959 W. 11th Avenue. Visitation Monday May 18, 2015 from 9-11:00 a.m. with Family hour 10:00 -11:00 a.m. Funeral service immediately following at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church 626 W.21st Avenue. Rev. Timothy F. Brown Senior Pastor. Interment Ridgelawn Cemetery Gary, Indiana.
