Bertha M. Harlan, (Nee White). Passed away peacefully surrounded by her children on June 3, 2015 at the age of 83 years in Gary, IN. Born March 22, 1932 in Summit, Mississippi, Bertha was one of eight children of James and Geraldine White. She was the beloved wife of the late Wilbert W. Harlan, loving mother of Beverly (Vincent) David, Randall (Sharon) Harlan, and Emery (Natalie) Harlan. Preceded in death by siblings Helen Martin, and James White, Jr. She was the dearest sister to Harold (Zetta) White, Emily Gardner, Evonne McMorris, and Bobbie Key. Dear Grandmother of Kimberly David, Amber David, Morgan Harlan, Clayton Harlan, Danielle Kerry, and Shelton Kerry. Further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and numerous friends. Bertha was a former member of St. Monica's church, and a current member of St. Mark Catholic Church. She was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother, and her Christian life was an example to all. Visitation at Guy & Allen Funeral Home, 2959 West 11th Avenue, Gary, IN 46404 on Tuesday, June 9, 2015 from 5:00 - 7:00 P.M. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 10, 2015, 11:00 A.M., at St. Mark Catholic Church, 505 West Ridge Road, Gary, Indiana 46408. Consistent with her wishes, the family asks that in lieu of flowers anyone wishing to send a gift, direct it to the Sojourner Truth House (women's shelter).
