Frances Jean Barnes Obituary
Barnes, Frances Jean Age 80, former First Lady of the City of Gary, passed away Sunday, November 9th at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago. Formerly of Junction City, Kansas, she was a Gary resident for 53 years. Frances was a graduate of Indiana University, B.S. Sociology and retired Secretary to Director of Instruction at Ivy Tech Community College witn 20 years of service. She was a member of SS. Monica & Luke Church, member of the Sanctuary Choir, founding member of the Style Show Committee, Charter member of the ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of Peter Claver, Court 289, 3rd & 4th Degree, member Alumni Association Indiana University. Frances was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin Sr. and Isabell Carroll; brother, Benjamin Jr.; 3 sisters, Susie King, Sally Dedmon and Eva Stewart. She leaves to mourn her passing, her loving husband, Thomas V. Barnes; son, Paul (Tonya) Barnes; 3 grandchildren, Matthew (Tyffany), Micah and Michelle; great-granddaugnter, Adriana; 3 sisters, Marjorie Washington, Mary Bell, and Ruth Asbury; brother, James (Ethel) Carroll; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Visitation Friday, November 14th from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. (3rd Degree ritual will be done). Saturday, November 15th, the viewing will be 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. (10:30 a.m. the 4th Degree ritual will be done). Funeral Mass will begin at 11:00 a.m., Father Robert Gehring officiating. All SERVICES WILL BE AT SS. MONICA & LUKE CHURCH, 645 Rhode Island Street, Gary. Burial at Oak Hill Cemetery.
