Robinson, Rebecca Bettye Affectionately known as "Bettye" was born on October 5, 1929 to Lorenzo and Rebecca Chambers in East Chicago, IN. Bettye was an active and loyal member of the Red Hatter's Society where she served as "Co-Queen Mother" for the Gary, Indiana Chapter. She was employed by General Motors Corporation in Chicago for 30 years, where she was the first of five African-American women in the company, nation-wide, hired as welders. Bettye exchanged time for eternity on November 15, 2014. She leaves to cherish fond memories: son, James (Rosilind) Robinson, Jr.; companion, Woodrow "Woody" Bradford; granddaughter, Tamika Eaves; great-grandchildren, Myka and Marquise Eaves; brother-in-law, Edgar L. Spikes; stepson, Edward Woods; and a host of beloved nieces, nephews and friends. Rebecca was preceded in death by her husband, James (Fuzzy) Robinson; parents, Lorenzo and Rebecca Chambers; daughter, Yvette Robinson; sisters, Lorraine Chambers, Dolores (Emery) Williams, Ruth J. Spikes, Imogene (Murray) Brown; brothers, Wilbert Chambers, Benear (Chloe) Chambers, Lorenzo (Laura Mae) Chambers, Jr., Calvin (Evelyn) Chambers, Henry (Johnnie Mae) Chambers. Visitation Tuesday, November 25, 2014 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with funeral services immediately following at 11:00 a.m. all at St. John Baptist Church, 2457 Massachusetts St. Interment Fern Oaks Cemetery.
