Heflin Sr., Ronald "Coach" 76, of Merrillville, Indiana passed away on Monday, March 30, 2015. He was born on October 22, 1938. He was a lifelong resident of Gary, Indiana. He attended Roosevelt High School from kindergarten to his senior graduating year and was a proud graduate of the Class of 1958. He attended Tennessee State University in Nashville, TN as a team member of the 1959 NAIA Champion Basketball team and he received his Bachelor's Degree in 1962. He later went on to obtain his Master's degree from Indiana University, Bloomington in 1970 before returning home to Gary, Indiana to serve for 38 years as a teacher and coach with the Gary Community School Corporation. He presently holds the record for the highest winning average of any basketball coach in the history of Gary, Indiana. He was a father, friend, teacher, mentor and coach to all who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his loving son Ronald Heflin, Jr., parents Wiley and Renee Heflin; 6 sisters Celestine Allan, Cloteal LaBroi, Chanelle Heflin, Cyrilla Wise, Carolyn Heflin-Reed and Charlotte Heflin-Parker; and 1 brother, Orlando Heflin. He is survived by his loving and devoted daughters Kelly and Kristi Heflin of Merrillville, Indiana; grandson Caden Ronald-James Heflin of Merrillville, Indiana; 1 loving sister Corrinthia (David) Bullock of Gary, Indiana; and 2 brothers-in-law, Phad Parker, and Cleve Allen of Gary, Indiana; 7 nephews and 8 nieces; 19 great-nieces and nephews; Life partners, Carla Heflin of Daytona Beach, FL and Curtessa Jacques of Merrillville, Indiana. Special Friends, Johnnie Barnes, Ronald Broome, John Campbell, Alex Cherry, Bobby Clark, Thomas Crump, Benny Dorsey, Orville Denham, Claude Powers, Sr., Arnold Price, Darren Surney, Renaldo Thomas, George Williams and a host of cousins and other loving extended family members and friends. Visitation: Monday, April 6, 2015, starting at Noon with family hours from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at St. Timothy Community Church, 1600 25th Avenue, Gary, Indiana. Funeral Services: Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at 11 a.m. at St. Timothy Community Church, Gary, Indiana. Assistant Pastor Reagan Robinson Officiating. Internment: Evergreen Memorial Park Hobart, Indiana.
