Tommie J. Burns Jr. passed June 16, 2015. He was born May 11 in Birmingham, Alabama to Eliza Bertha & Tommie Burns Sr. Tommie graduated from Parker High School in Birmingham, AL. He was employed by U.S. Steel for 38 years and retired in 2003 as a foreman in the Coke plant. Tommie was a veteran of the U. S. Army, serving in the Viet Nam Conflict. He was a member of Fifth Avenue United Methodist Church. He was also a Freemason, King Solomon Lodge #57, P.H.A. He was preceded in death by his parents Tommie and Eliza Burns and brothers Kanneth and Andre Burns. Tommie is survived by his wife of 45 years Deborah, son Tommie Burns III; daughters Jamease Upshaw, Marsha (Michael) Harris, Terri (Willie) Lewis; sisters Dorothy Adams & Frances Bates; sisters-in-law Hollis Burns & Martha Harris; brother-in-law Fredric Crowe; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren; special nephew Radon (Michael) Burns and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation Wednesday June 24, 2015 at 12:00-8:00 p.m. with family hour 6:00p.m. Masonic rites at 6:30p.m. at the Guy & Allen Chapel. Funeral service Thursday June 25, 2015 at 11:00a.m. at Fifth Avenue United Methodist Church 2600 West 5th Avenue. Pastor Vera Johnson officiating. Interment Evergreen Memorial Park.
