Calvin Benjamin Chandler Sr. was born to the late Willie Sandy and Pearlie Chandler on March 14, 1928 in Giatto, West Virginia. He was a faithful member of Bethlehem A.M.E. Zion where he served as a Sunday School Teacher and on the Trustee Board. He was a graduated of Bluestone High School class of 1946 He furthered his education at A&T college in Greensboro, NC where he received an Bachelor's degree in Vocational Industrial of Arts and a Master's in Industrial Education. Calvin was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army and the U.S. Air Force reserve. He taught for many schools in the Gary Community School Corporation from 1956 to 1994. Preceded in death by parents Willie Sandy and Pearlie Chandler, step mother Elizabeth Chandler; wife Barbara Chandler; daughter Cynthia Chandler; 1 sister; 4 brothers; 1 step-sister; 3 aunts; 2 nephews. Calvin leaves to cherish his fond memories devoted son Calvin Jr. of Gary, Indiana; granddaughters Barbara Ann Chandler of Indianapolis, IN Courtney and Myia of Gary, IN; Sister Ophelia Hattie (Garrett) Webb; brother Claudia (Carol) Chandler both of Gary, IN; step sister Alicia Crosby of Dayton, OH; aunts Janie Wyatt, Geraldine Chandler and Lorraine Chandler and a host of other relatives and friends. Visitation Friday March 2, 2018 from 12-8:00p.m. with family hour from 7-8:00p.m. at the Guy & Allen Chapel 2959 West 11th Avenue. Funeral Service Saturday, March 3, 2018 at 11: 00a.m. at Bethlehem A.M.E. Zion Church 560 West 19th Avenue. Rev. Al Hensley Gooden Officiating. Interment Oak Hill Cemetery.
