Dr. Cato Brooks, Jr. age 77, of Gary, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, January 2, 2018. He was born January 26, 1940, in Forrest City, Arkansas. He was the Pastor Emeritus of the Tree of Life Missionary Baptist Church. He was the founder, and pastor of the Tree of Life Missionary Baptist Church, 2323 W. 11th Avenue, Gary, IN, for 38 years. Dr. Brooks retired from active pastoring on August 18, 2017. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cato Brooks, Sr and Beatrice Brooks, two (2) sisters, one (1) brother, and his son, Cato Brooks, III. Dr. Brooks is survived by his devoted wife of 48 years, Bettye J. Brooks, and five (5) children, Attorney Marva J. Davis, of Little Rock, Arkansas, Pastor Marvin (Emma) Davis and Shirlee Davis, of Gary, Indiana, Catina Groves, of South Bend, Indiana, and Pastor Terry Wayne (Monique) Brooks, of San Diego, California, fourteen (14) grandchildren, three (3) great grandchildren, two (2) sisters, two (2) sisters-in-law, one (1) brother-in-law, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A viewing will be held at the Tree of Life Missionary Baptist Church, on Friday, January 12, 2018, from 12 Noon until 6:00 PM, followed by Visitation with the family from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The funeral service will be on Saturday, January 13, 2018, at 10:00 AM, at the Tree of Life Missionary Baptist Church.
