Clara Nicholson Obituary
age 102, departed this life Wednesday October 19, 2016. She was born Clara Baker September 21, 1914 in Greenwood, MS and was the only child of Eugene and Maggie (Hemphill) Baker. She moved to Gary in 1936. She attended the St. Paul Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Hawkins and in 1941 joined the Trinity Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. W.H. Thomas where she served faithfully and actively. She was a member of several fraternal organizations and began her political affiliation with the Republican Party initially in the 1940's, which included years as a precinct committee person and later as city Republican Chair. She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Clara Mae Ford, husbands Al Guster and George Nicholson. She leaves to celebrate her life, her god-child Eliza Hooks and each of Eliza's children Margie Nelson, Clara Mason, Dan, Ernie and Vanessa Hooks; her cousins the Nichols family with special appreciation for cousin Maggie and her brothers Dewayne and Robert Nichols and her dedicated health companion, faithful helper adopted in love son Will Boyd. Visitation Wednesday, October 26, 2016 from 12 to 8:00 p.m. at the Guy & Allen Chapel. Funeral service Thursday, October 27, 2016 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Baptist Church 1831 Virginia Street. In lieu of flowers it was Mrs. Nicholson's request that a scholarship be established in her name for the youth of Trinity Baptist Church. Rev. Dwight Gardner officiating. Interment Ridgelawn Cemetery.
