To The Family of Elvira Howard,

There are some thing you will always remember about a neighborhood; depending on the location of your house your perspective is formed. Living on the corner, I could everyone walking 25th Avenue Ms. Howard was one of the parents traveling to and from Carver as was many of our parents during our six years at Carver School; as Jesse McNeil would say, "that's Freddie and Geraldine's Mama, she don't play"....we had a lot of respect for Ms. Howard.
When I blessed to visit with her years later as an adult, I understood why soldiers when Ms. Howard made her appearance; she was very stern. I will never forget hearing her ask me "do you hear me? this is free advice. are you paying attention?"....I dare not say no.
The family has lost a Mother, and that is a great lost. My prayers are with each of you; especially Geraldine. May your heart be comforted with the joy of knowing she was know by many even in her quiet demeanor was respected. Like many on 25th Avenue, she too was an icon; someone that will be remembered by those that remain and thought of fondly. May the grace rest up your hearts during this difficult time and your memories comfort you.

Mr. Carney F. Coopwood
