Ernest Payne Sr. was born August 23, 1923 in Meridian, Mississippi to the late Joe Payne and Ella Ward. Ernest entered eternal rest on Friday October 27, 2017. He was a member of Van Buren Baptist Church for over 50 years. Ernest retired from the U.S. Steel, owner of the Chili Bowl Restaurant and bus driver for Van Buren Baptist church. Ernest was preceded in death by his wife Henrietta (Toliver) Payne and two sons Ernest Jr. and Jerome Payne Sr.; Ernest is survived by sons Willie (Shirley) Spinks, Charles (Pamela) Payne, Larry (Patsy) Payne and Jackie (Virginia) Payne; daughter-in-law Ethel Payne; special cousin Leola Macon and nephew Tyrone Johnson; 25 grandchildren; 41 great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Visitation Saturday November 4, 2017 from 9-11:00 a.m. with funeral services to follow at 11:00a.m. All services at Van Buren M. B. Church 2585 Van Buren Street. Rev. Dwight E. Mobley officiating. Interment Oak Hill Cemetery.

My deepest condolences to the entire Payne family. Whenever God goes into his garden he always picks the best. Mr Payne was really loved, i count it a blessing to have known such a christian true man. you will be truly missed.
