Garfield Hampton Jr., (Pluke) age 90 passed away Friday, September 21, 2018. He was born May 13, 1928 in Indianola, MS to the late Irene and Garfield Hampton Sr. Garfield married the love of his life Bettie Jean Shipp and was married for 59 years before her death November 26, 2008. He retired from US Steel after 38 years as a locomotive engineer. Preceded in death by his parents Irene and Garfield Hampton Sr., wife Bettie Jean Hampton; brothers Mansfield, Oneal and Robert Hampton; and grandson Joseph Dillion III. He leaves to cherish his fond memories daughters Rosemary Dillion-Bullock, Barbara Martin, Yvonne (Robert) Ware, Cecillia (Billy) Freeman, sons Anthony and Sgt. Lionel Hampton; brother Ira Hampton; sisters Martha (Robert) Lee, Mary Murphy, Overzenia Richardson and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, other relatives and friends. Visitation Sunday September 30, 2018 from noon-8:00p.m. with family hours from 6-8:00p.m. at the Guy & Allen Chapel. Funeral services Monday October 1, 2018 at 11:00a.m. at St. John Baptist Church 2457 Massachusetts Street. Pastor R.E. Robinson officiating. Interment Oak Hill Cemetery.
