Juanita Marie Hull nee Jewell was born on September 23, 1928 in Gary, Indiana to Katie and James Jewell. Juanita decided at an early age to make Christ her life partner. This was followed by her baptism and lifetime faith journey as a member of First Baptist Church of Gary. During her 80 years of membership, she served as a Nursery Department Sunday School teacher, a faithful member of Class 13 Sunday School, and a member of the Miriam Missionary Ministry. Juanita was united in Holy Matrimony to Edgar Hull on June 22, 1957. This union was blessed by the birth of two daughters: Joyce Marie and Deatra Elise. Edgar and Juanita enjoyed gardening and landscaping the grounds of their home together until his passing in 2001. Juanita attended Gary Roosevelt High School. After an early graduation, she attended Indiana University in Bloomington where she pursed her dream of educating future generations. She graduated from Indiana University in spite of segregation with both B.A. and M.S. degrees in elementary Education. Her service to the Gary Community School Corporation spanned 39 years; teaching first grade at Pulaski, Dunbar and Williams schools. She had deep love and appreciation for each and every student that entered her classroom community. Long after her classroom service ended, Juanita continued to foster the love of reading by tutoring children and adults. Juanita was a founding member of the Beta Mu Chapter of National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa. Her work in the sorority included serving as director of Xinos, the sorority's organization focused on youth community service and scholarship. Juanita was a voracious reader. She also had a keen interest in political affairs and was an avid viewer of CNN and MSNBC. Once she reached voting age, she voted in every election. Her final vote was cast in November 2018. After a lingering and debilitating illness, Juanita exchanged time for eternity on January 30, 2019. She was preceded in death by her father James Jewell, mother Katie Mae Jewell, sister Alma Brumfield, brother James Jewell, daughter Joyce Marie Hull and husband Edgar Hull. She leaves to mourn her passing and cherish her memory a loving and devoted daughter Deatra Sullivan-Morgan and dutiful son-in-law Wayne Morgan both of Gary, her number one cheerleader granddaughter Jessica Marie Sullivan-Wilson and her checker and Bible Study partner grandson–in-law, Robert Wilson of Chicago, IL, brother-in-law Wendell Brumfield of Merrillville, IN, a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, friends and two loved and spoiled dogs Tux and Sampson.
