Lillie B. Colon was born on July 17, 1925 in Tennessee to the late Larcenie Watkins. She moved to Chicago, Illinois as a child and graduated from Bowen High School. She met and married James Colon and moved to Gary, Indiana. She had three children from this union, Janice, James, and Kenneth Colon. Lillie enjoyed caring for her family, shopping, and traveling. She was a stay at home mother for many years and eventually became a Teachers Aid for the Gary Community School Corporation. She dedicated more than 20 years to the needs of special education children until she retired without hesitation to raise her daughter's young children Vincent, Dereka, and Danielle after Janice's untimely passing. Lillie was God-fearing and a member for more than 50 years at New Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church. She loved to serve God and the church. Lillie was a dedicated member of the usher board and nurses guild. On November 14th, Lillie peacefully departed this life for her Eternal life with her Lord and Savior and family who preceded her. Lillie was preceded in death by her husband, James Colon, daughter Janice Colon and son Kenneth Colon. She leaves to cherish her memory, son, James "Harold" (Ladora) Colon of Palos Verdes Peninsula, CA, 5 grandchildren Vincent "Ralphie"(Vanita) Colon, Dereka (Will) Woods and Danielle Northern all of Indianapolis, IN, Tyler Colon and Miles Colon of Palos Verdes Peninsula, CA. 6 great-grandchildren Marcus, Marshaw, and Marianna Colon, Zuri Williams, Sincere and August Northern, all of Indianapolis, IN. One great-great-granddaughter Juliet Colon of Indianapolis, IN. One brother-in-law Bill Colon, 3 sisters-in-law Mary Giboney, Doris Colon and Mamie Colon. 4 cousins Stephanie New, Winifred New, Leslie New, and Joan Johnson as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Lillie will be sorely missed by her family, friends and community. Visitation Saturday November 24, 2018 from 9-11:00a.m. with funeral services to follow at 11:00a.m. All services at New Tabernacle Baptist Church 2416 Pierce Street Gary, IN. Rev. Chet Johnson officiating. Interment Oak Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Lillie Colon Scholarship Fund, in partnership with New Tabernacle Baptist Church. Funds to be awarded annually to deserving high school Seniors from NW Indiana for college tuition or school expenses.

Mother Lillie will rest in peace, you made her very proud. The good and caring mother that she was, heaven received her with open arms and Eternal Rest well deserved.
