Madie Delores Nance DuBose Finch, loving wife, mother and grandmother passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 16, 2018 surrounded by family. Born in 1924 in Enterprise, Alabama, she was 94 years old when she made her transition. Madie was a graduate of Alabama A & M College, where she received her Bachelor of Arts Degree, and Indiana State University, where she received her Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education. She will be remembered as a dedicated educator for over forty-five years who formed long-lasting bonds with many of her students who she taught while living in Alabama and later Indiana. Madie's service and dedication to her community were recognized by the various organizations that she had affiliation and membership. She accepted Christ as a young girl and joined John's Chapel AME Church in Enterprise, Alabama. While still in Alabama, she was a member of Valonia Chapter No. 306 of the Order of Eastern Star and the Delta Sigma Zeta Chapter of Alpha Pi Chi Sorority. Throughout her years living in Gary, she was very involved in her church, St. Luke AME Zion. Madie was a former Pastor's Aide, a member of the choir, Christian Education Board, Culinary Committee and the Missionary Society. She enjoyed her Early Risers Prayer Group, Millinery Hat Club, Mercy Hospital Volunteer Group, the Number 65 Block Club where she held several leadership roles, The Bridge Club, her sorority-Iota Phi Beta Chapter of Alpha Pi Chi Sorority where she was a charter member, the Novi Rotary Club, affiliate membership of Novi United Methodist Church, and her Teachers Retirement Group. Madie loved to talk and never met a stranger that she didn't get to know! She loved shopping, talking on the phone and being with friends. Her outgoing personality allowed her to make friends wherever she went. Madie was preceded in death by: her husband, Leander Finch and her son Reginald Kenneth DuBose. She was the last surviving direct descendant of J.E. and Mamie Gilley Nance and was preceded in death by her brothers: Oliver Matthews, Fred Matthews, Clinton Nance, Y.C. Nance, Robert Nance, Henry Frank Nance, Syvalouis N. Nance Sr., Louie Frank Nance, and James A. Nance; and her sisters: Mary Nance Dean and Myra Nance Riley. She leaves to cherish her memory and to continue her legacy: devoted and loving children-Benjel (Clementine) DuBose of Gary, IN; and Althea (Vincent) Hayes of Novi, MI; nine grandchildren whom she loved dearly and was very proud of-Cedric Caldwell of Fayetteville, NC; Sherida (Taft) DuBose Parsons of Birmingham, MI; Broderick DuBose of Merrillville, IN; Billy (Kimberly) DuBose of Memphis, TN; V. Terdell (Natasha) Hayes of Chicago, IL; Alicia DuBose of Gary, IN; Renetta DuBose of Augusta, GA; Anise Hayes of Detroit, MI; and Liza DuBose of Indianapolis, IN; sixteen great-grandchildren; a host of other relatives, friends, church family and former students whose lives she touched and enriched along her earthly journey. Visitation Friday, August 24,2018 from 12:00p.m.-8:00p.m.with family hours from 6-8:00 p.m. at the Guy & Allen Chapel 2959 West 11th Avenue . A celebration of Madie's life will be held Saturday August 25, 2018 at 11:00a.m. at St. Luke A.M.E. Zion Church 1300 Jackson Street in Gary, IN. Interment Evergreen Memorial Park.
