Maurice and Sophia Vann at the 100th anniversary of Israel CME Church
To the family of Maurice Vann,

You have my deepest sympathy and condolences. The Vann family were the best next door neighbors one could have in life. Maurice was always giving of himself. He was a talented brick mason, carpenter and fisherman. He taught Michael and I how to fish. We always looked forward to fishing at Wolf Lake and Calumet River during Spring and Summers. He built the best custom made barbecue pits and cooked the best barbecue in the neighborhood. He taught Michael and I how to barbecue. No doubt in my mind this is at least partially the inspiration behind Michael's Smitty and Mos restaurant in Newark, NJ. He re-modeled our basement with wood paneling. He taught Michael and I how to nail and install wood paneling. He was always willing to teach us. The Master Carpenter and Fisher of Men have called him to Glory. He is no longer in pain. To Sophia, Michael and Carol he is in a better place and I will always remember him and keep you all in my thoughts and prayers.

Dear Mrs. Vann and family,

I was so saddened to hear of Mr. Vann's passing. He was truly an influence in my young life at Israel CME Church. Although we were younger than your children he still was a father figure for us along with Calvin Smith, Jordan Bonner and others. I vividly remember the men cooking at the church for one of our amazing functions as a child. His smile and love for cooking will be missed. I know he is resting with the angels.

Praying for your continued strength, comfort and peace.

With heartfelt love,
Tammi
