Spencer Hervey Sr. Obituary
Spencer W. Hervey Sr., 92, affectionately called "Bubba"" passed away July 28, 2017. Born March 12, 1925 in Water Valley, MS to the late Elbert and Mamie Hervey Sr. He was an honorably discharged veteran of the U.S. Navy (Seaman 1st Class) serving during W.W.II and receiving the Victory Medal and Philippine Operation Medal. Spencer was a former employee of Southern Produce Creamery and obtained a trade in Cabinet Making in 1949 from Yalobrusha Trade School and was a photographer.. He was a retired employee of Pullman Standard Company, and Indiana University Northwest. He was a member of New Friendship Baptist Church where he served on the Usher Board. Spencer is preceded in death by his granddaughter Kenya, brothers Elbert Jr., Curtis, sisters Barbara Hervey and Kate Brown. He leaves to cherish fond memories: 7 children James Tanner of Gary, IN, Carroll Price of Seagoville, TX, Jacqueline (Robert) Perry of Bloomington, IN, City Councilman Spencer (Sabrina) W. Hervey Jr., Steven (Lerdine) Hervey both of Lancaster, TX, Evangelist Cherrie (William ) Mitchell of Gary, IN and Cheryl Freeman of Merrillville, IN. 2 extended family sons Lewis Harris III of Dallas, TX and Arthur (Carole) Harris of Carmel, IN. 22 grandchildren, 36 Great grandchildren and 8 great great grandchildren. Brother Thomas Hervey of Memphis, TN and sister Modesture (John ) Haywood of Chicago, IL. 2 sisters-in-law Gency Tedford of Chicago, IL and Delois Hudson of Gary, IN and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation Friday, August 4, 2017 from 12to 8:00p.m. Family hours from 6 to 8:00 p.m. at the Guy & Allen Chapel, 2959 W. 11th Ave. Funeral service Saturday August 5, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at New Friendship Baptist Church, 1545 Waite St. Rev. Royce Thompson, Pastor. Interment Evergreen Memorial Park
