Velma Lee (Cole) Redmon was born September 7, 1929 in Louise, Mississippi to the late Frank Cole, Sr. and Kitty (Cole) McConnell.Velma went home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 5, 2017. She was preceded in death by one son Ulysses Burnett, III.She leaves to cherish her memory one brother Henry (Savannah) Cole; sons John (Valerie) Cole, Sr., Eddie James Smith, Adam (Ted) Smith, Bernard Smith, Rodney (Corie) Burnett, Sr., daughters Lucille Smith-Brown, Valerie K. (Toot) Redmon-Rhea (Manuel); 29 grandchildren:, 100 + great grandchildren;14 + great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.Visitation Friday, May 19, 2017 from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Guy and Allen Chapel 2959 West 11th Avenue Gary, IN 46404. Funeral services Saturday, May 20, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the New Friendship Baptist Church 1545 Waite Street Gary, Indiana 46404. Interment Evergreen Memorial Park.
