We just learned of Joyce's passing and want to express our most sincere condolences to Chuck, Lori and Mark. I have such wonderful memories of working with Joyce at Home Savings back in 1980. She was a terrific boss and became an even better friend for all these years. Whenever we passed through Appleton we tried to stop in at the bank to say hi and catch up on the news. We knew we would always be greeted by her jubilant smile and laughter. She was a truly special person who changed the lives of all of us who were fortunate enough to cross paths with her. May she rest in God's loving arms and may we all find comfort in the wonderful memories she gave us.

Sorry to hear about Joyce. I believe my Dad new Chuck along time ago. His name was Bud or Jerry Johnson. The summer of I believe 1970 I took care of Lori and Mark . I road my bike over everyday, you lived off of Memorial drive in a White House.. Lori could be a little stinker then! But everyone was so kind to me. I was very quiet then.My Dad passed in 1973 . He also was so young. My prayers are with all of you. Judy

Joyce hired me in 1981 to be a personal banker' in customer service at Home Savings. At this time in my life Home Savings reminded me so much of the movie It's a Wonderful Life where people actually knew the customers and their families. It was years that were never to be seen again in the banking industry. You asked for stories and I have two funny stories to share. The security alarm kept going off in the middle of the night at HS. There was a motion detector' security system set up at that time. She was getting frustrated as to why it kept going off. She kept having to come down with the police to shut it off and was tired of it. As a result, she firmly instructed all of us to immediately remove any paper sheets we had taped behind the counter'. She thought when the AC or heat came on and blew the sheets the movement was setting all the alarms off. We all obeyed and immediately removed them but it did not help. When someone found a half-eaten candy kiss in their drawer we realized mice were running all over at night setting off the alarms. Another time we had just gotten a notice of a person in the valley who had stolen checks. All financial institutions at that time received these watch lists'. I just read mine and turned around and here this young guy was standing in front of me wanting to cash one of these stolen checks. So I stalled him seeming like forever imagining he maybe' had a gun and was going to shoot me in the back any minute. I whispered to another employee to call the police. They finally arrived, snapped on the handcuffs all the time reading him his rights. All of a sudden out comes Joyce from her office saying to the two detectives, Hi guys what's going on? She never noticed all the time we had a Columbo Experience' going on at the counter. But what really impressed me the most is Christmas at Home Savings. She called all of us her girls' and would give each of us a special gift' each year, most often something she had taken time to hand make. We would have a little party after work where she asked each of us to set around the decorated tree in the lobby and open our gifts. One year she gave us each a beautiful pillow she hand made all in lace with our initial embroidered on it. Years later at our son's wedding the ring bearer walked down the aisle with mine. She may have ruled with a firm hand but underneath was a devoted, kind hearted and giving person'. She was by far superior to the group that took over after she moved on in her career. She dearly loved her two children, Lori and Mark and spoke lovingly of them often. Blessings to all her family members and friends that you may all cherish the memories she left behind. I think she would have liked that.
