Challoner, Faye Marmes
Faye Marmes Challoner, 79, passed away on Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Appleton. She was born in Oshkosh, Wisconsin on May 26, 1934, the daughter of Loretta Walther Brink and Edgar H. Brink. Faye grew up in Oshkosh and graduated from Oshkosh High School in 1952. She married George William Challoner on January 22, 1955. Faye and George lived most of their married life on Adella Beach in Neenah. Faye was a Room Mother for both of her children and a Girl Scout Leader at Lakeview School in Neenah for ten years. She was a volunteer at Pleasant Acres, Winnebago, Wisconsin for six years. In 1992, she received the Fox River Valley Community Service Award for volunteering. Faye was a nurse and when she retired, she and George moved to Sun City Center, Florida before returning to reside in Appleton, Wisconsin.
Faye is survived by her husband, George William; a son, George Steven of Tampa, Florida; a daughter, Laura Challoner and son-in-law William Hue, of Johnson Creek, WI. She is also survived by a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Myra and William Manser, of Oshkosh, Wisconsin and nieces, nephews, great nephews and cousins. Faye was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, mother-in-law, aunts, uncles, brother and sisters-in-law, and her kitty of 18 years, Chessie.
Faye loved to go perch fishing on Lake Winnebago with her husband George. She enjoyed her neighbors on Adella Beach Road, especially Julie and Dick Jacobsen and their daughters Aimee and Jeni. She also loved the out-of-doors, autumn days, oil painting, NASCAR racing, and studying Native American Indian Culture and Art. Faye loved and respected all animals, but especially the Gray Wolf. In closing, Faye says "I love you all" to her family and dear friends who were important in her life. Hugs and kisses to her nephew, Andrew Manser and friend, Jeff Rehfeldt, cousin, Roy Swisher and his wife Nancy, cousin, Susan Guenther; friends, Carmen and Robert Furman, who helped her and George after they moved back from Florida as well as Christine and Kim; who cared for her at Oakridge Gardens Nursing Home, and her roommate Lorraine Werth. Faye also wanted to acknowledge and thank her physicians Dr. Paul McAvoy and Dr. Hayan Yacoub. Finally, her family thanks the staff at Oakridge Gardens Nursing Home and St. Elizabeth Hospital.
In accordance with Faye's wishes, there will be no visitation or services after cremation.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Oshkosh Area Humane Society, 1925 Shelter Court, Oshkosh, WI 54901. Because of the deep love she had for them, Faye's family always came first.
