James Rustad Obituary

Rustad, James F.

James "Jim" Rustad, age 80 years, of Big Falls, WI, passed away on March 28, 2013 with his wife by his side.

James Forest Rustad was born on June 2, 1932 to James Melvin and Olga (Olstad) Rustad in the Town of New Hope, Portage County, Wisconsin. He attended Rosholt area schools and after schooling entered the U.S. Navy in 1950. Jim was an aviation mechanic aboard the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Kearsarge, and served in 1954. After his military experience he worked in construction in the Milwaukee area. Jim was united in marriage to Donna Rae Bovee on June 29, 1957. The couple owned and operated Rustad's Mobil in Neenah from 1960-1977. Jim was a founding member of the Wolff's Pack Snowmobile Club in Neenah. He was one of the first to groom trails in Winnebago County. Jim was an over the road truck driver until his retirement in 1993 and his C.B. handle was "Silvertip."

Jim and his wife were members of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Neenah from 1960 until retiring to the community of Big Falls. They then became members of St. Peter's Lutheran in Big Falls. Jim served as trustee on the Big Falls village board. During this time the village began to remodel the village hall. He volunteered numerous hours of labor for this project during his term and afterward. Jim was a member of the National Rifle Association, Ducks Unlimited, and the American Legion. He was an avid hunter, fisher, snowmobiler, and outdoorsman. James enjoyed working with wood. His projects ranged from home remodeling, garage building, shadow boxes, butcher blocks, sheds, and his elaborate hunting blind known as "The Condo".

James is survived by his wife of 55 years, Donna, his four children: James (Jackie) Rustad of Jackson, Richard Rustad of Neenah, David Rustad of Neenah, and Patricia (Stuart) Hoelzel of Neenah. There are three grandchildren: Spencer & Candace Hoelzel, and Jeremiah James Rustad. There are three sisters: Ruth Anklam of Big Falls, Vivian Sneller of Green Bay, and Betty Jordan of Westchester, PA. There are two sisters-in-law; Carol Kernan of Mesa AZ and Gertrude Collette of Nelsonville, and one brother-in-law, Douglas Bovee of Rancho Palos Verdes, CA. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, and well as his best friend Pearl. He is preceded in death by his parents, 5 sisters, 3 brothers and many dogs including his hunting companion Belle.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Dale Schlais, Dr. Ken Geller, and Beyrl of Ministry Home Care.

Funeral service will be held on Monday, April 1st at 11:00 AM at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Big Falls. Rev. Janice Kuder will officiate and burial will be at Big Falls Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by members of the American Legion Post #63 and the VFW Post #664, both of Clintonville. Friends may call on Monday from 9:00 AM until time of service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Peter Lutheran Church, Big Falls.
