More than a year after her passing, we still miss Mike in Book Babes, which she was a key part of for 25 years. Whenever Mike made an observation about a book or especially about a character's actions, we listened. Mike was a woman of kindness, discernment, gentle humor, and a quiet but persistent commitment.

Mike was my first manager at the Oceanfront Library in Virginia Beach when I was sixteen years old in 1976. She was also my sister Debbie's first manager before me. Mike was always kind and helpful and had a lovely sense of humor. Even though I was just a shelver, she provided me with an introduction to reference collections and reference work. My sister and I worked in libraries our entire lives, (I still do) and we are proud to say that we learned from her as teens.
