Ernest Maki
Appleton - On Friday, March 19, 2021, at the age of 89, Ernie was called home by his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
He was born on September 6, 1931, in Trout Creek, MI to the late Nicholas & Margaret Maki. On October 3, 1957, he married Dora McCollum, they were together for 64 years. Ernie was a Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force, honorably discharged in 1956. In 1994, Ernie retired from Neenah Printing after 19 years as a Pressroom Supervisor. He was a member of Eternal Love Lutheran Church in Appleton, WI. Ernie loved the outdoors, especially trout fishing and gardening. His gardens were immaculate without a weed in them and he grew enough food to feed his family and many more. He took pride in a well-maintained yard and flower gardens that he and Dora would enjoy by the hour. They also enjoyed trout fishing in Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, spending every weekend they could in waders, seeing who could catch the most and biggest fish of the day.
Ernie is survived by his wife of 63 years, Dora; daughters: Kristen (Kyle) Hermanny of Palatine, IL and Kara Maki of Brillion, WI; granddaughter, Kia (Aaron) VandenBush; great grandchildren: Kolbie and Conlan VandenBush; and brother, Phillip (Carol) Maki. He is further survived by many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, Ernie was preceded in death by his son, Karl E. Maki.
