McCarthy, Janet A.

Janet A. McCarthy, 83, passed away peacefully on Dec. 8, 2012, at Brewster Village in Appleton, Wis. Janet was a former longtime resident of Phillips, Wis., and had moved to the Appleton area in the past year.

Janet was born on Oct. 18, 1929, in Ashland, Wis., to Henry and Bernice (Haasl) Sell. She graduated from Park Falls High School and went on to graduate from the University of Wisconsin-Superior in 1951, with a degree in teaching. Janet's teaching career extended 30 years, most of which were as a kindergarten teacher in Phillips.

Janet married Daniel J. McCarthy on Dec. 26, 1955. They had four children, Patrick, Timothy (Mary), Bridget (Dean) Fairbert and Kelly. She had four grandchildren who were her pride and joy, Meghan, Kathleen, Erin, and Daniel.

Janet was passionate about her family, music, and her grand-dogs. Janet had an amazing gift in her singing voice. She sang for many weddings and sang at Christmas Eve Midnight Mass for many years. She took much joy and pride in teaching and even kept scrapbooks of the classes she taught.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Daniel, and her parents, Henry and Bernice Sell. She is survived by her four children, her four grandchildren, her sister, Sally (Joel) Germond, and her many nieces and nephews. Her family would also like to include her special friend, Debbie DeBruin, the staff of the Manor at Brewster Village, and Thedacare Hospice, who all loved her as much as her family did..

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 15, at St. Therese of Lisieux Catholic Church in Phillips with Father Gerald Hagen celebrating the Funeral Mass. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of services. Interment will be in the St. Patrick Cemetery in Phillips.

The Heindl Funeral Home in Phillips, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
