Kenneth L. Maves

Neenah - Kenneth L. Maves, of Neenah, age 89, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 7, 2019, at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center - Neenah. He was born February 1, 1929 in Detroit, MI, son of the late Paul and Arnetta (Stoskopf) Maves.

Ken graduated from Tecumseh High School in 1946. He attended Western Michigan University where he met Janet Quick. They were married on June 11, 1953. Ken then graduated from Western Michigan University in January of 1954, with a BS in Paper Technology and Chemistry. He took a job with Bergstrom Paper Co. in Neenah as a Chemist in February of 1954.

Ken served in the US Army from 1954-1956 and then returned to Neenah and continued working at Bergstrom Paper Co. He retired from PH Glatfelter Paper Co. in 1992 as Technical Director after other assignments in Technical and Manufacturing after 36 years of employment.

In 1995 Janet and Ken began spending winters in Florida where he enjoyed golf and the warm winters. They enjoyed traveling where they participated in many Elderhostel trips to Europe, Israel, Costa Rica, Alaska, Hawaii, West and Southwest United States and Western Canada.

Ken was a life-long golfer and was a member at Ridgeway Country Club in Neenah for 20 years. In 1981 he bought a sailboat which he enjoyed greatly, competing in races on Lake Winnebago. Ken also was an avid photographer, enjoyed running in local 5k races. Other hobbies included gardening and woodworking, singing in a barbershop quartet and listening to classical and jazz music.

Ken was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Neenah where he served on the Church Board several times.

Survivors include his wife, Janet; three children: Karen (Joe) Slimack, Mitch (Sharon) Maves, Mark (Pam) Maves; and four grandchildren: Jonathan (Jordan) Slimack, Katie Slimack, Natalie and Jonah Maves.

Ken was preceded in death by two brothers: Donald and Douglas.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 12, 2019, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 407 Oak St., Neenah, with Rev. D.J. Engelbrecht officiating. The visitation will be held at the church from 10:00 AM until the hour of service. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers a memorial is being established for Trinity Lutheran Church and the .
